Working House Fire

On the Evening of Jan 4,2016 at apprx. 2232 hours Station 57, ambulance 49 and medic 101 was dispatched to a house fire in the 700 block of Log Cabin Rd. Moments later 57-15(Chief-B.Johnson) inquired from Kent Center If this was a working alarm. Kent center confirmed an advised that it was reported as a chimney fire that has now spread into the walls. 57-15 then requested an assist from Station 42 (Carlisle). Moments later station 49 (frederica) was also alerted to assist. 15 then requested a engine cover up out of station 40 (bowers). Engine 57-5 responded with 15(Chief B.Johnson) an arrived to find a 2 story single family dwelling with fire showing through the roof. 15 then established Log Cabin Rd command.Tanker 57 responded with Chief Engineer Lecates. Engine 57-2 responded with Deputy Chief (Mcconaghy).The crew from engine 5 deployed a 1” ¾ line to the structure for fire attack. The next due engine Tanker 49 supplied engine 5, there crew along with 42’s crew deployed a second 1”¾ line from engine 5 to the alpha side front door for an interior fire attack. 15 then requested his standby crew to the scene and to have them replaced. That brought bowers to the scene and Magnolia to cover up. Bowers crew relieved firefighters who had been working for the duration of the alarm. (Chief B.Johnson) then transferred command to Deputy Chief (Mcconaghy) for the duration of the alarm. Crews then laddered the roof and continued a exterior attack through the attic windows. Due to the circumstances extensive overhaul was needed. and due to the inclement weather this was an extended operation. Deputy 57(Mcconaghy) then placed the situation under control with units working. two subjects escaped the residence prior to arrival and were treated for smoke inhalation by bls on scene and refused transport.
